James William West, 90, of Cowden passed away at 9:45 a.m. Friday (April 25, 2014) at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday (May 2, 2014) in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden with Nick Robertson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden. Memorials may be made to the Lincolnland Hospice.
James was born September 20, 1923 to Ivan and Ruby (Enterline) West in Bruce, IL. He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1940 and served in the United States Air Force, stateside during WWII.
He married Katherine Ellen Harrison February 27, 1949. They moved to the Cowden area in 1950 and farmed until 2001.
James was also a skilled craftsman. His woodworking artistry was enjoyed by many people.
James is survived by his wife, Katherine and children, Ann (Nick) Robertson, Lisa (Robert) Brown and Neal (Jeanie) West, sisters, Arletta Elzy and Ruby Irene Elzy, sister-in-law, Lenore (Howard) Dunaway, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by sister, Ida May Bragg, grandson, Tyler and great-granddaughter, Chloe.
