Mark C. Welton, 55, of Shelbyville died Saturday, August 23, 2014 in Shelbyville, IL, following a courageous battle with ALS.
He was born May 2, 1959, the son of Glen C. and Vera Maurine (Hanson) Welton. He was a millwright with Kelly Construction, retiring for health reasons in January 2014 with over 29 years of service. He married the love of his life, Debra Mahaffey, on May 12, 2001 in Shelbyville. He is survived by his wife, daughter, Sarah Carl and life partner Tyler Schumacher, grandsons, Eli Carl, Ty Carl, and Colton Schumacher, sisters, Joann Smith (Robert), Shirley Smith (Donald), Edna Smith (Fred), Retha Orr (Roger), Jeanette Welton, brothers, Dick Welton (Jeanna), Tom Welton (Pearl), Dwight Welton, Gerald Welton and Glen J. Welton, half sisters, Alice Workman and Julie Welton, half brother, Glen C. Welton, Jr., step-mother, Alice Welton, father-in-law, Gerald Mahaffey, who passed away on Sunday, sister-in-laws, Cheryl Welton, Pat Welton, Betty Farrow (Dennis), Penny Wakeland (Charles), and Jeanne Robinson, uncle, Donald Hanson, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his faithful companion, Skeeter. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister and mother-in law, Rheta Mahaffey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Gary Crowder officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. The family requests casual attire. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association.
