Dorene Edwards Waggoner, 98, of Windsor passed away at 5:00 a.m. Monday (June 17, 2013) at the Heartland Christian Village, Neoga.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Windsor Christian Church. Rev. Richard Eident and Pastor Jeff Brookins will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Windsor Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor. The family requests that memorials be made to the Windsor Christian Church or the Heartland Christian Village, Neoga.
Dorene was born October 4, 1914 at home in Shelby County, Illinois the daughter of Fred W. and Louetta Clem Bennett. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Edwards on December 17, 1958, and John Waggoner on February 7, 1978, her parents, 2 brothers, Glenn and Leo Bennett, and both sons, Larry G. and Bill Edwards.
Dorene is survived by a daughter-in-law, Barbara Edwards, Champaign, 2 step-sons, John Boyd Waggoner (Stella), Shorewood and Richard O. Waggoner (Judy), Cornelius, Oregon, 3 granddaughters, Monica Edwards Larson (Kenny), Minneapolis, Minnesota, Michelle Edwards Jenks (Roger), Oswego, Melissa Edwards Larson (Michael), Afton, Minnesota, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, Jennifer Waggoner Patselas (Chris), Ann Arbor, Michigan, Paul Waggoner (Annette), Arlington Heights, Laurie Waggoner Powers (Quincy), Eugene, Oregon, Leslie Waggoner Cramer (Kent), Bend, Oregon 8 step-great-grandchildren, brother Dean Bennett, Windsor.
Dorene grew up in Windsor area and graduated from Windsor High School in 1932. She attended Sparks College and worked as a secretary in Springfield and Shelbyville until she married and became a homemaker. After her children were grown she worked for her brothers at Bennett Tire Company for 28 years, retiring in 1989.
Dorene was a member of the Ash Grove Christian Church where she began playing the piano for Sunday School and Church when she was 12 years old. After her marriage to Carl Edwards she joined him in membership at the Windsor Christian Church where she was active in the Kum-Join-Us Sunday School Class, taught Sunday School, played the piano, and served as a Ladies Aid volunteer. Dorene was also a 50 year member of the Eastern Star Glenn Chapter #83.
