Raymond Paul Vail, 89, of Windsor passed away at 10:18 p.m. Saturday (May 11, 2013) at the Sullivan Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ash Grove Christian Church, Windsor with Rev. Jim Dona officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery at a later date with military rites. Arrangements are by Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor. Memorials may be made to the Ash Grove Christian Church or the donorís choice.

He was born May 26, 1923 in Beecher City the son of Ralph Bird and Fairy Kora (Steele) Vail. He married Elizabeth Eleanor Slifer August 22, 1942 and she preceded him death October 17, 1985. He then married Vera Beals January 3, 1986 and she preceded him in death May 21, 2006.

He served in the US Navy during WW II. He was a member of the Ash Grove Christian Church, Windsor, Moose Lodge, Eagles Club and Odd Fellows of Mattoon, American Legion in Lovington, VFW in Sullivan and Arthur Sportsman Club. He was formerly was employed at FS, Landers, an Arthur City Policeman, a Moultrie County Deputyand retired from Schrocks.

Surviving are his children, Eileen Nolen (Bob, deceased) of Arcola, Richard Vail (Lula) of Charleston, Jerry Vail (Shirleen) of Mattoon, Rev. Darwin Vail (Janet) of Grey, Maine and Bob Vail (Barb) of Sullivan; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, brothers, James Vail and John Vail, sisters, Mary Smith and Naomi Fish.
