Burl Franklin Tilford, 88, of Windsor passed away at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday (January 3, 2011) at the Sullivan Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor with Rev. Richard Eident officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the Windsor Cemetery with military rites. Memorials may be made to the Sullivan American Legion.
He was born December 1, 1923 in Falls of Rough, KY the son of Robert and Lucretia (Nottingham) Tilford. He married Evelyn Haag July 4, 1945 in Alexandria, LA and she preceded him in death, June 28, 2006.
He was a retired mechanic and welder and owned the Windsor Welding and Repair for 40 years. He served in the US Army in WW II and was a member of the Sullivan American Legion.
Surviving are his children, Carol Cookson of Sullivan, Linda Stevens of Windsor, Duane Tilford (Kathy) of Windsor and Anita Kollmann (Russell) of Mattoon; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, one sister, one grandson and one great-grandson.
Burl was a good friend to everyone he met and he never met a stranger.
