Doris Evelyn Thompson, 91, of Bement passed away at 11:53 a.m. Friday October 3, 2014 at the Arthur Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Mt. Zion Township Cemetery at Woodlawn Drive and Roberts Street in Mt. Zion with Reverend Mark Sanders officiating. Memorials may be made to the donorís choice.

She was born October 20, 1922 in Murrayville, Illinois the daughter of Lauren and Thelma Shelton. She married Donald C. Thompson on December 14, 1941 in Palmyra, Illinois.

She graduated from Peoria Manuel High School in Peoria. She was a homemaker, worked for ASCS office in Monticello and helped her husband farm. After 43 years of farming she and her husband retired to Harlingen, Texas. They then returned to Central Illinois.

Doris was a member of the Bement Christian Church and the Shelbyville Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, camping and fishing. Doris was very active at the Bement Christian Church, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, helping with many meals and bazaars. She was well known for her oyster stew at church. While in Texas, Doris volunteered at a local school tutoring children to read.

Surviving are her daughters, Sharon (Bob) Grove of Arthur, Jeannie (Larry) Belton of Arthur and Pam (Ward) Romine of Bement; grandchildren, Stuart Grove, Tami Belton-Rocke, Jennifer Anderson, Tim Romine and Amber Romine; 5 great-grandchildren and sister, Maxine Shelton of Peoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother, 1 granddaughter, Emily Romine and her beloved husband Donald of 71 years who passed April 8, 2014.
