Donald C. Thompson, 95, of Shelbyville formerly of Bement passed away at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday (April 8, 2014) at the Shelbyville Manor.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Mt Zion Township Cemetery with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Military rites will be by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Floral arrangements may be sent to the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Cards of condolence may be sent to his wife, Doris Thompson % Shelbyville Manor, 1111 N 12th St, Shelbyville, IL 62565. He was born June 26, 1918 in Bourbon, IL the son of V.H. and Mae (Thomason) Thompson. He married Doris Shelton December 14, 1941 in Palmyra, IL.
He graduated from Dalton City High School and served as a First Sergeant in the Army Air Core during WW II. He retired from farming in Bement after 43 years and moved to Harlingen, TX, then returned to Shelbyville. He was a member of the Bement Masonic Lodge, Confederate Air Force in Harlingen, TX, Bement Auxiliary Police, Bement American Legion, Bement First Christian Church and the Shelby Christian Church. He enjoyed NASCAR, Harley Davidson Motorcycles, Cardinal Baseball and WW II airplanes.
Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Doris; daughters, Sharon Grove (Bob) of Arthur, Jeannie Belton (Larry) of Arthur and Pam Romine (Ward) of Bement; grandchildren, Stuart Grove, Tami Belton-Rocke, Jennifer Anderson, Tim Romine and Amber Clark; 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and granddaughter, Emily Romine.
