Richard N. Tennery, 88, of Effingham passed away at 2:43 p.m. Sunday (June 6, 2010) at his residence.

He was born September 26, 1921 in Beecher City the son of Joseph N. and Bertha (Mann) Tennery and grew up on the family farm south of the city. He attended Beecher City schools and joined the U.S. Army in September of 1942. He married Aurora Templeton in 1944 at Fort Benning just prior to shipment to England. He served in the European Theater in the 78th Infantry Division, 903rd Field Artillery Battalion and participated in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, the Huertgen Forest and the Ludendorff Bridge at Reumagen, Germany, the later on March 10, 1945.

Following Army service, he completed training in horology and gemology at Bradley University. He and Aurora operated watch and jewelry businesses in Centralia and Effingham for many years.

He leaves many friends and daughter, Patricia and grandson, Shelby both of Effingham and one brother, Victor of Oak Ridge, TN. He was preceded by his parents and wife, Aurora.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Beecher City Cemetery with military rites. Arrangements are by Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Beecher City.
