John W. Taylor, 84, of Shelbyville passed away at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (April 26, 2014) at St. Anthonyís Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Pastor John Curtis officiating. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with a funeral dinner following at the Cornerstone Community Fellowship. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the St. Johnís Hospital Prairie Heart Institute.
He was born May 13, 1929 in Holliday the son of Charles Edward and Ione Pearl (Felkel) Taylor. He married Barbara Jean Phegley December 2, 1949 in Shelbyville and she preceded him death October 18, 2012.
He was a truck driver for 44 years working for Hygrade, East Texas Motor Freight and ABF. He was a member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge in Shelbyville and Teamsters Union in Springfield. He loved racing go-carts with his children, auctions, rummage sales, drinking coffee at McDonalds and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his children, Brenda (Doug) Doss, Michael (Donna) Taylor and Margie Taylor all of Shelbyville and Phyllis Ridenhour of Mattoon; brother, Joe Taylor of Decatur; sister, Patsy Honaker of Findlay; 7 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
