Floyd Sphar, 85, of Shelbyville passed away at 9:29 AM Wednesday (May 23, 2012) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the City of Shelbyville Save Orphaned Animals Fund or Shelbyville Education Foundation.
He was born February 20, 1927 in St. Joseph, MO and raised by Ed and Lenora Sphar. He married Irma Brownlee May 17, 1947 in Tower Hill and she preceded him in death September 30, 1997.
He retired from Shelby Electric Co-op after 59 years of service. He served in the US Navy, was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW and Moose Lodge in Shelbyville.
Surviving are his children, Jim (Twila) Sphar of Shelbyville, Jack (Janice) Sphar of Arcola, Vickie (Larry) Redmanof Shelbyville Connie (Bob) Hall of Shelbyville, Terrie (Larry) Duncan of Windsor and Rick (Glenda) Sphar of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law, Lavay Sphar of Allenhurst, GA; grandchildren Holly (Mark) Corley, Troy Sphar, Travis Sphar, Trinity Sphar, Leigh Anne Sphar, Angie Sphar, Michael Cox, Chad Hall, Ashley Duncan, Amanda Duncan, Andy Duncan, Blake Furr and Rachel Sphar and his special dog, Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son, Bill Sphar in 2011.
