Keith Floyd Snyder 80 of Effingham, IL, went to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family, at 9:24 PM Tuesday Mar. 23, 2010 in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Keith was born Dec. 3, 1929 in Moweaqua, IL the son of Floyd and Jennie Maude Robertson Snyder.
He married Nancy Reed in Strasburg, IL on Jan. 4, 1959.Later he married Betty Turner on Mar. 16, 1996 in Effingham, IL.
Keith was a life-long farmer and in his later years, was employed at Effingham Rural King.He was formerly an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Shelbyville where he served as an elder, Sunday school teacher and choir member.He helped with the construction of the Holy Cross Church when it was built in 1983.He later became an active member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Effingham when, in his later years, he moved to that area.In his youth he participated in Rural Youth of Shelby County.
Keith was a former member of the Cowden-Herrick Community Unit School Board of Directors.
He served his country in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War.
He loved traveling with Betty, watching the sporting events of his grandchildren, gardening and telling a “Good Joke”.He was a staunch St. Louis Cardinal Fan.
Keith led a full and rich life, and enjoyed his family and friends until he sustained a recent life-changing head injury, the result of a fall.
Surviving are his wife Betty;children: Kendall Snyder and wife Debbie of Lakewood, IL, Kara Shuff and husband Rob of Shelbyville and Kathy Lay and husband Shane of Marshall, IL; step-children: Deborah Hoover and husband Gary of Orlando, FL and John Turner and wife Joclyn of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren: Cody Snyder and Autum Snyder, Trenton Shuff, Lexi Lay, Maisie Lay and Skylar Lay; step- granddaughters: Jennifer Shoemaker and husband Chad and Lauren Turner; step- great grandson Aidan Hardy; sister Anita Mae Carroll of Monticello, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Kenneth Carroll.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday Mar. 27, 2010 inHoly Cross Lutheran Church in Shelbyville.Rev. Wade Helmkamp and Rev. Ted Gall will officiate.Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Burial will be in Traughber Cemetery near Moweaqua, IL.Military rites will be performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard.Memorials can be made to Shelbyville Boosters Club, Marshall Boosters Club or to Shelbyville Girls Softball.
