Kent B. Smith, 58, of Lakewood died at 12:40 p.m. Thursday (July 12, 2012) in Decatur.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Pastor Darrell Best officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or the Angel of Love Program with Old River Abate.
He was born November 15, 1953 in Shelbyville the son of Howard and Doris (Bateman) Smith. He married Tami Schloz September 18, 1987 in Lakewood.
He was a graduate of Shelbyville High School and received an Associates Degree in Electronics from Lakeland and Richland College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Richland. He was employed as an electrician at Caterpillar since 1974. He was a member of the Old River Abate Motorcycle Club, NRA, member and union steward of UAW Local 751.
Kent loved motorcycles, proud of his Harley Davidson. He was an avid animal lover, felt at home in his woods and enjoyed sharing adult beverages with his friends. He was a devoted husband, proud father and loving son-in-law and brother-in-law.
Surviving are his wife, Tami; daughter, Chelsea Smith at home; mother-in-law, Barbara Barror of Assumption; brother-in-law, Robbie (Jan) Schloz of Decatur; sister-in-laws, Carla (Moe) Wilcox of Los Lunas, NM and Connie Schloz of Moweaqua; aunt, Virginia Winn of Pana; 11 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, uncle, John Winn, brother-in-laws, Chris and Ron Schloz and niece Alison Wilcox.
