Harold E. Smith, 89, of Shelbyville passed away at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday (August 14, 2013) at the Shelby Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Greg Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Harold was born September 14, 1923 in Fancher the son of Simon Elmer and Elizabeth (Fowler) Smith. He married Mary M. Moore February 10, 1946 in Shelbyville.
Harold was a member of the Second Street Church of Christ. He started work as a farmhand and then worked construction. He became a drywaller and painter working over forty years. Harold was an avid hunter and mushroom hunter.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; daughters, Phyllis Johnston (Charlie) of Shelbyville and Ramona Shrake (Steve) of Mattoon; grandchildren, Todd Johnston, Mark Johnston (Kim) and Christina Keller (Scott) all of Shelbyville, Chad Johnston (Amanda) of Elsberry, MO, Lora Shrake and Lisa Perry (Chris) of Dubois; brothers, Jay Smith of Cowden, Lloyd Smith of Assumption, Leon Smith of Seattle, WA and Leonard Smith of Tampa, FL, sisters, Wilma Adair of Lerna and Lois Compton of East Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Virginia Young and half-sister, LaVonne Ruff.
