Frieda Darlene Julius Black Simmons, 87, died Sunday (February 19, 2012) at 2:40 a.m. in Moweaqua Nursing and Retirement Center, Moweaqua.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Lockart Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lockart Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Wright’s Corner, rural Beecher City.Memorials to Alzheimer’s Association.
Frieda was born on May 31, 1924 in Beecher City, the daughter of Jacob and Hazel (Claytor) Julius.She married Cecil Black on December 3, 1942 in St. Charles, Missouri.He preceded her in death on November 6, 1986.She later married Maynard Simmons on May 19, 1988 in Goose Creek, South Carolina.He preceded her in death on February 17, 2008.She was a member of First Christian Church in Moweaqua.She was an amazing loving woman with a gentle spirit who lived her life with kindness and grace; she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by sons Wayne of Tower Hill, IL, Jerry of Hudson, FL, and Jim (Laura) of Hudson, FL; daughters Sandi Wicker of Ragley, LA, Judi King of Monticello, IL, Sheri (John) Durbin of Palm Coast, FL, and Debbi (Greg) Streeval of Boody, IL; daughter-in-law Gennell Black of Tower Hill, IL; brother Dorwin (Wanda) Julius of St. Elmo, IL; sister Elinor (Dwight) Burks of St. Elmo, IL; stepsons Gary (Laura) Simmons of Moweaqua, IL and Bob (Janet) Simmons of Moweaqua, IL; stepdaughter Cindy (Leroy) Miller of Moweaqua, IL; grandchildren Kim (Carl) Smith of Lake Charles, LA, Rodney Hood of Ragley, LA, Brad (Sandy) Black of Pana, IL, Jon Black of Pana, IL, Shellie (Rich) Barger of West Richland, WA, Lori (Gregg) Cohen of Johns Creek, GA, Chad Durbin of Kansas City, MO, Randy Black of Tampa, FL, Robby (Jessica) Black of New Port Richey, FL, Samantha (Brad) Knackmuhs of Decatur, IL, Kristie (Jason) Montgomery of Monticello, IL; eight step grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and ten step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; son Sheldon Black; sister Garnett Garrison; and grandsons Rick Black and Ronnie Hood.
