Frank J. Schafer, 88, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday (May 26, 2015) at his residence.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church, Shelbyville with Father Don Wolford officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with prayer services at 7:00 p.m.. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Lincolnland Honor Flight or the Wounded Warriors.
Frank was born December 27, 1926 in Kelso, MO then son of Frank George and Ortha Louise (Heiserer) Schafer. He married Arlayne E. Koerber September 9, 1950 in St. Louis, Mo.
Frank enlisted in the US Marine Corps at the age of 17 and served in the Pacific during WWII. He then served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville in 1984. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Shelbyville. Frank loved to garden and take care of his forty acres.
Surviving are his wife, Layne; son, Louis Schafer, wife Marie of Lakeland, TN; daughters, Mary Lockart, husband Bill of Shelbyville, Karyn Rezinas, husband Perry of Mt. Zion, and Cindy McIlwain, husband Bill of Windsor; grandchildren, Kay Beard of Nashville, TN,KimTrout (Chris) of Petersburg,VA, Brad Lockart (Aimee) of Lakewood, Brett Lockart (Mary) of Charleston, Bart Lockart (Ashley) of Shelbyville, Kara Saad (Ben) ofDelaware, OH, Courtney Droogan (Sean) of Wheaton, Kristin Weinberg (Michael) of Milford, OH, Jacob McIlwain and Jared McIlwain of Windsor; great grandchildren, Ally Beard, Sidney and Nick Trout, Carson, Crew, Jackson, Adeline, Elena, Theodore, Sawyer and Sloane Lockart, Kellen and Brennen Saad, Conner and Charlie Droogan,; sister, Emma Marx of San Jose, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Louis, George, Raymond and Zeno, and sisters, Celeste, Anna, Marie, Zita, Marilyn and LeeAnna.
