Shirley Marilyn (Cordray) Richardson 82, of Decatur, IL, formerly of Effingham, IL and Shelbyville, IL, died peacefully at 7:45 AM Sunday May 3, 2015 in St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL.

She was born June 22, 1932 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Edith Cordray.

Shirley was employed by, and retired from, the Decatur Public School System.She later relocated to Shelbyville, and later Effingham, where she remained for the rest of her years.

In retirement, she continued to care for senior citizens and others as a caregiver in Shelbyville.She was a devoted friend to those she considered family in her social circle at Slate Creek Apartments in Effingham.

She is survived by children: Susan Richardson of San Antonio, TX, Janet Shelton of Decatur and John Richardson of Lexington, KY; grandson Derek Aalders of Wichita, KS; granddaughter Caroline Richardson of Louisville, KY, sister Rella (Cordray) Foor and husband Kimble of Shelbyville; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Edith (Himes) Cordray and infant first born child, Pamela Richardson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday May 7, 2015 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Rev. Kevin Ray will officiate.Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until time of the service on Thursday in the funeral home.Memorials may be made in Shirley’s memory to St. John’s Hospice of Springfield, IL.
