Kathy Jo Rentfro 57 of Stewardson, IL, passed away at 11:40 AM Thursday Feb. 17, 2011 in her home.

Kathy was born Nov. 2, 1953 in Charleston, IL the daughter of Ernest and Iola “Pug” Braden Garner.

She married Keith Rentfro Feb. 27, 1972 in Charleston, IL.

Kathy was a member of the Stewardson United Methodist Church.She was very active in youth activities in her community.She organized many summer youth programs, such as dances and hot dog roasts. Kathy helped organize the Strasburg pre-school program.She and her family “adopted” several foreign exchange students in their home and she formerly directed the “In Touch” drug prevention program in her community.

Kathy was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker for her family.After her children were in school, she worked as a dispatcher at Landfill 33 in Effingham.

She was an avid motorcyclist and loved cross country motorcycle excursions with Keith on their Gold Wing.Kathy was very artistic and loved all kinds of crafting.She was a 1971 graduate of Mattoon High School.

Surviving are her husband Keith; children: Jason Rentfro and wife Tena of Mode, IL, Michael Rentfro and wife Jessica of Terre Haute, IN, Timothy Rentfro and wife Donna of Effingham, IL, Anitra Rentfro and fiancé Thomas Tolliver of Windsor, IL , Tennille Rentfro and fiancé David Purcell of Windsor and Tahnee Rentfro and friend Joseph Florida of Effingham; parentsErnest and Iola “Pug” Garner;twenty-three grandchildren and one on the way; brothers and sisters: Carol Walters and husband Mike of Charleston, IL, Ernest Garner Jr. and wife Julie of Tennessee, and Mark Garner of Charleston, IL; father-in-law Dwight Rentfro of Stewardson.

She was preceded in death by a sister Nancy Garner Warner, mother-in-law Ruby Rentfro; and niece Amanda.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday Feb. 21, 2011 in the Stewardson United Methodist Church.Pastor Kathy Lewis will officiate.Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Sunday in Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson and one hour before the service on Monday in the Church.Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery.Memorials can be made to Stewardson United Methodist Church or Ronald McDonald House.Send condolences to lockartgreenfuneralhome.com
