Donald Earl Rankin, 91, of Mattoon passed away at 2:28 a.m. Monday (December 29, 2014) at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor with Pastor Kevin Wolfe officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Burial will be in Cochrans Grove Cemetery near Windsor with military rites. Memorials may be made to the Windsor Ambulance or the Mattoon Health Care Center activities fund.
Don was born May 8, 1923 in Shelby County the son of Ethie O. and Ella (Wilson) Rankin. He married M. Wandalee Latch February 21, 1946 in Shelby County.
Don farmed near Sexson Corner in Shelby County until retirement in 1985. He was a lifelong member of the Ash Grove Christian Church serving as a Deacon for many years. He attended Broadway Christian Church in later years. He served in the US Army during WW II, member of the Mattoon VFW, charter member of the Windsor Area Ambulance Board and served on the board of Cochranís Grove Cemetery for several years.
Surviving is his wife, Wanda of 68 years, children, David (Cheryl) Rankin of Mattoon, Carolyn (George) Ledbetter of Sullivan, Steven (Susie) Rankin of Decatur and Beverly (Lee) Williams of Ohio; sister, Helen Louise Binder of Decatur; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
