Gordon Dale Prater, 79, of Decatur passed away at 5:00 p.m. Thursday (May 24, 2012 at the Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Dale was born November 16, 1932 in Cowden the son of Gordon and Ina (Lockart) Prater. He married Helen Thompson November 19, 1955.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Cowden and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army. He retired from Wallender & Dedman Printing Inc. Dale loved spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Helen of Decatur; sons, Greg (Maryann) Prater of Christiana, TN, Gary (Dawn) Prater of Decatur and Jeff Prater of Decatur; grandchildren, Brett and Ashley Prater of Decatur, Dylan and Danielle Prater of Christiana, TN; brother, Roy (Joan) Prater of Cowden; sister-in-laws, JoAnn Prater of Odessa, FL and Ruby Prater of Shelbyville; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Miriam Toothman and brothers, Everett and Charles Prater.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the First Christian Church, Cowden with Pastor Tim Boyd officiating. Casual attire is requested. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden. Memorials may be made to the Mound Road Christian Church, 790 East Mound Road, Decatur, IL 62526 or the First Christian Church, Cowden. Arrangements are by Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden.
