Herbert R. Phelps, 84, of Shelbyville passed away at 8:10 a.m. Thursday (September 23, 2010) in the Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in Bethel Cemetery near Findlay with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville.

He was born May 14, 1926 in Shelby County the son of Luther and Bertha (Spracklen) Phelps.

He served in the US Air Force during WW II and the Korean War retiring after 20 years of service. He was formerly employed at Shelby Tool & Die, Connelly’s and Funk’s Fertilizer.

Surviving are son, Mike Phelps and wife Terre of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Jared Phelps and Timeka McKittrick; 5 great-grandchildren; wife, Ruby Phelps of Shelbyville; sister, Irma Atkinson of Shelbyville and brother, Adrian Phelps of Mattoon.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Dale, Charlie, Cecil and Gene Phelps and sister, Betty Stephens.
