Russell D. Pettyjohn, 81, of Shelbyville passed away at 4:12 p.m. Wednesday (May 26, 2010) at the Shelby Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Tim Boyd officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shelby County Humane Society
He was born July 4, 1928 in Woodford County the son of David Curtis and Freida (Pritchett) Pettyjohn. He married Mary Kindt, October 4, 1949 in Shelby County and she preceded him in death May 22, 2007 after 57 years of marriage.
Mr. Pettyjohn was a 1946 graduate of Cowden High School. He worked as a farmer and for the Oliver Corporation. He then worked with the local Labor Union as a construction worker. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Westervelt, Findlay Eastern Star and Shelbyville Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are daughters, Carmen Carter (Donald) of Taylorville, Sondra Diss (John) of Findlay, Cheryl Pettyjohn (Larry Thrall) of Shelbyville and Deanna Pettyjohn (Jim Graven) of Westervelt; grandchildren, Jason Carter, Sarah Weinant, Laura Minks, Nikki Hanson and Elizabeth Thrall;great-granddaughter, Isabella Minks; brother, Milton Pettyjohn (Sandy) of Cowden; sister, Pansy Vanicola of Dayton, OH and sister-in-law, Analiese Pettyjohn of Plato, MO
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandchildren, Joey Pettyjohn Pruemer and Angela Diss and brothers Harold Pettyjohn, Claude Pettyjohn and James Pettyjohn.
The family would like to thank Dr. Agapito, the staff of Shelbyville Manor and the staff of Shelby Memorial Hospital for the kindness and care of Russell.
