Glenn Lanell Petty, 80, of Herrick died at 1:45 p.m. Monday (March 26, 2012) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden with Pastor Jay Huddleston officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden with military rites. Memorials may be made to the Herrick Church of Christ or the Quad County Hospice.

He was born September 14, 1931 in Fayette County the son of Edgar Glenn and Carrie (Sarver) Petty. He was united in marriage to Phyllis L. Robertson on October 27, 1951 in Vandalia and to this union one daughter, Dana was born.

He was a gifted mechanic and farmer all his life except for a stint in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for E.J. (Dib) Corley Implement for 10 years then was self employed tractor mechanic, owner and operator of Petty Repair Service for over 50 years with customers from Owaneco to Dietrich and Windsor to Vandalia. He was a member of the Herrick American Legion Post # 839 for 40 years and was instrumental in the design and building of the veteranís memorial in Herrick. He was also an active member of the Herrick Church of Christ for 40 years and served on the Herrick and Cowden school boards for 11 years. He enjoyed fishing with his buddy, Clarence.

He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Phyllis, daughter Dana Christine Neuman of Beecher City, brother, Eugene Petty of Beecher City; sister Imogene Atkinson of Effingham; 6 sister-in-laws; 1 brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar (Bob) and Carrie Petty, brother, Donald D. Petty, mother and father-in-law, Pauline and Homer Robertson, 4 brother-in-laws and son-in-law, William J. (Bill) Neuman.
