Clifford Ray Newton, Sr., 64 of Pana formerly Cowden passed away at 6:15 a.m. Thursday (August 11, 2011).

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Cowden with Pastor Ron Brown officiating. Military Rites will be by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born July 1, 1947 in Mt. Vernon the son of William Ray and Leta Fae (Owens) Newton. He married Donna Jean Hicks March 17, 1974 in Lakewood.

He was employed at Great Western in Assumption. He served in the US Army from 1965 to 1976 retiring as a Staff Sergeant. He then served in the Illinois National Guard for over 20 years retiring in 2007. In the service he was a cook and received the Army Achievement Medal.

Surviving are his wife, Donna Jean; children Jenny (Joe) Helm and their children, Timothy, William, Alyssa, Martina and Gabrielle of Pana, Patty (Wes Reynolds) Newton and their children, Amber and Ashlynn Reynolds of Shelbyville, Clifford (Stephanie) Newton, Jr. and their children, Mackenzie, Dayton, Brayton and Makayleigh of Assumption and Ronnie Massey and family of Shelbyville; brothers, William Junior Newton of Mt. Vernon, Paul Lisenby of Chicago and Eddie Lisenby of California; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Alfred Lisenby and sisters, Marie Klutts, Flodine Roeder and Nadine Roeder.
