Robert Wayne Miller 87 of Beecher City, IL, passed away at 1:03 AM Friday May 22, 2015 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. Illinois.
Robert was born Nov. 8, 1927 near Beecher City in Loudon Township, Fayette County, Illinois, the son of Melvin and Lucy Buzzard Miller.
He married Audrey Miller on February 22, 1948.They were married for 67 years.
Robert graduated from Beecher City High School in the Class of 1946.
He was a member of Greenland Baptist Church near Beecher City and attended First Baptist Church in Effingham.
Robert was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer.While working the family farm, he also worked at Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville, Best Homes in Effingham, Illinois and, for many years drove a school bus for Beecher City Unit School District.
Robert was a member of Millroad Threshermen Association.He was a talented woodworker who made many items.He made rocking chairs for all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren copied from a chair Audrey’s grandfather made for his children. He also made and repaired quilting frames for Audrey.
He had a great interest in antique farm machinery and attended many steam engine demonstrations.While attending these demonstrations, he would demonstrate rope making techniques and assist in operation of a steam powered saw mill.As a couple, Robert and Audrey volunteered in the visitor center at the“Cross” near Effingham.
Surviving are his wife Audrey; children: Cheryl (Jim) Reed of Beecher City, Janey (Steve) Summers of Beecher City and Bruce (Sandra) Miller of Beecher City; grandchildren: Kevin Reed of Beecher City, Ashley (Laila) Reed of Carrollton, TX, Aaron (Jamie) Summers ofBeecher City, Jon (Amy) Summers of Shelbyville, IL, Ryan Summers of Beecher City, Haley (Justin) Wilhour of Altamont, IL and Austin (Katie) Miller of Beecher City; great grandchildren: Dylan Reed, Elizabeth Reed, Jarret Summers, Marissa Summers, Audrey Summers, Grant Summers, Onna Wilhour, Graidon Wilhour, Paylin Wilhour and Brantley Wilhour.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Eileen Gregg and her husband Lester.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday June 2, 2015 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City.Dr. Roger Marshall and Rev. Bill Dean will officiate.Visitation will be Monday June 1, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home.Burial will be in Bob Doane Cemetery near Beecher City.Memorials may be made in Robert’s memory to to Tri-County Ruitans dedicated to the “Beecher City Kluthe Center Wednesday Senior Meals Program”.
