Rev. Marlin H. “Budd” Miller 86 of Cowden, IL, passed away at 3:18 PM Thursday April 14, 2011 in Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville.

Rev. Miller was born June 2, 1924, the only son of an only son, in Elkhart, IN to Clifford R. and Opal L.Palmer Miller.

He married Norma Manning (deceased).On August 13, 1960 he married Colleen Cooper in Kankakee, IL.

Rev. Miller was a multi-faceted and very talented Christian man.After several years in the restaurant and automotive industries, he founded, owned and operated a successful plumbing business [Budd`s Plumbing and Heating] in DeLand. IL. from 1961-1972.In 1972, he received his calling to the Lord. He closed his plumbing business and entered into the Lord’s ministry.He served the Lord in full time pastorates at several locations throughout Illinois including Findlay, Pocahontas, Oconee/Ohlman/Fairview, Cowden/Lakewood, Prophetstown, and Concord/Arenzville.In 1986 he retired from the United Methodist Church and continued interim and part time pastoringatOdin, IL and the Holland, IL Community Church from 1987-2005.

He served his country in the United States Army during WWII.

He loved flower gardening, assisting neighbors and friends with their home remodeling and repair projects (of which there were many).Above all else, he was a positive Christian example for his loving family to whom he was devoted.

Surviving are his wife Colleen; children; Marna Nale of Ullin, IL, Larry Miller andwife Angie of Lerna, IL, Kevin Miller and wife Sylvia of El Cajon, CA, Philip Miller and wife Ruth Ann of Cowden, IL, Carla Miller and special friend Curt Richardson of Sullivan, IL, Mary Hovis and husband Gary of Cowden, IL, Bill Miller of Cowden, IL and Clifford Miller of Cowden, IL; thirty grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters, Mona Jervis of Elkhart, IN and Denelda Jane Davis ofRushville, IL andaunt, Ginnie Palmer of Elkhart, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step father, Loren Jervis, daughter-in-law, Meliah Miller, son-in-law, Bill Nale, one grandchild, Devin Robert Miller, three great grandchildren, Sara Nale and twins who died at birth, and brothers, Charles Jervis and Palmer Jervis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday April 19, 2011 in the United Methodist Church of Cowden, IL.Pastor Sid Hutchison, Pastor Clint Nale (grandson), Pastor Ron Davis and Philip Miller, Marlin’s son will officiate.Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden.Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard.Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church of Cowden, Preachers Aid Society of the Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church, Cowden First Responders, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Donors Choice.
