Shirley L. (Parr) Melvin 82 of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 8:55 AM Friday Jun 18, 2010 in Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL.
Shirley was born August 23, 1927 in Springfield, IL the daughter of George A. and Eva Edgar Parr.
Shirley was a graduate of Taylorville, Illinois High School in the Class of 1945 and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville.
She was first and foremost, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker for her family, and, for a time, was employed in the Office of the Shelby County Treasurer.
Shirley was a gifted seamstress, and loved to sew for her family, and dedicated many hours to creating special costumes for students who were in Shelbyville High School musicals, dinner shows and dance recitals.
Shirley was a loyal Shelbyville High School Sports Booster who could be seen in attendance, with Barney, at countless Shelbyville Ram sporting events.She was a talented bowler and golfer and was a staunch St. Louis Cardinal and University of Illinois fan.
She married Barney Melvin June 14, 1946 in Monroe, MI. and he survives.Also surviving are daughter Lana Pancoast and husband Robert of Shelbyville; grandchildren: Abbie Vollmar and husband Brian of Indianapolis, IN and Zachary Pancoast of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law Mary Parr of Shelbyville; close special friends Emily and Lou Sohaney of Shelbyville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Edgar Eugene Parr and Clayton Parr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday June 22, 2010 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville.Memorials can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
