Charles F. Martin Sr. 89 of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 3:11 PM Monday Sept. 5, 2011 in Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville.

Charles was born May 16, 1922 in Shelbyville the son of Charles and Josephine Young

Martin.

He married Ruth Tate on May 11, 1946 in Shelbyville and she passed away on Sept. 14, 2001.

He graduated from Shelbyville High School and then served his country in the United States Army during WWII.He was a tank commander in the 3rd Army under General George Patton. Charles landed on Normandy Beach on D-Day and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a member of Roy Vanderpoole American Legion Post #81 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4829 both of Shelbyville.

After the war, he returned to Shelbyville to work as a supervisor atOliver Corporation and P& H Manufacturing Co.

Charles is survived by sons: Charles F. Martin Jr. and wife Nancy and Doug Martin and wife Brenda both of Shelbyville; grandchildren: Dena Bolin, Jamie Poole, Craig Martin and wife Kelly, Angie Osborn and husband Matt, and Kacey Hendricks; 6 great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; sister Joan Drago of Albuquerque, NM.

He was preceded in death byhis wife Ruth, his parents and sister Ethel Haacke.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Rev. Kevin Ray will officiate.Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to time of the service on Thursday.Military rites will be performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard.Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery,Shelbyville.Memorials can be made to the Family.On line condolences may be directed to the Family at www.lockartgreenfuneralhome.com
