Airman Stephen Christopher Long, 19, of Eglin Air Force Base, Destin, FL, formerly of Shelbyville, IL and Cowden, IL, passed away at 1:52 PM Saturday July 17, 2010 from injuries received in an automobile crash near Milton, FL.

Stephen was born Mar. 23, 1991 at Bitburg Air Base, West Germany the son of Barry and Kathryn Budahazy Long.

Stephen was serving in the United States Air Force as an air crewman, working in avionics on the F-15 fighter plane, and was stationed at Eglin Air Base at Destin, FL.

He formerly attended Cowden High School and graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 2009.In school, he participated in the scholar bowl team, basketball, cross-country, student government and school plays.He loved fishing with his father, playing board games with friends and family, swimming and reading good science fiction.He was a member of the Cowden Free Methodist Church and a staunch St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Fan (much to the dismay of most of his family).

Surviving him are his parents Rev. Barry and wife Kathy Long of Bethany, IL; brothers and sisters: Deborah Long of Seoul, South Korea, Josiah Long of Ft. Campbell. KY (United States Army), Rebecca Long of Augusta, GA (United States Air Force), James Long of Ft. Hood, TX (United States Army), John Long of Pensacola, FL (United States Army), Benjamin Long of Ft. Bragg, NC (United States Army) and Samuel Long at home (soon to be a United States Navy enlistee), Matthew Long at home (soon to be a United States Air Force enlistee) and Christina Long at home; niece Naiyah Ann Long at home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday July 24, 2010 in the Cowden Free Methodist Church.Pastor Steve Hale will officiate.Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Friday in the Church. Military Rites will be performed by the United States Military Honor Guard of Scott Air Force Base, St. Louis, MO. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden, IL.Memorials can be made to the Stephen Christopher Long Memorial Fund dedicated to the Durley Youth Camp Scholarship Fund.Online condolences may directed to the family at
