Howard E. Koontz, 69, of Mode passed away at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday (February 14, 2012) at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO after a short battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Brummerstedt Funeral Home, Stewardson. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Stewardson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Barnes Children’s Hospital.

Howard was born September 2, 1942 in rural Prairie Township to Horace Dale and Wilma (Brandt) Koontz. He married Nancy Strohl on April 13, 1963 in Stewardson.

Howard was Prairie Township road commissioner for 25 years and drove a school bus for Stewardson-Strasburg District 5A for 18 years. He was an avid toy tractor collector and loved woodworking and raising a variety of small farm animals.

He leaves wife , Nancy; son Todd (Inga) Koontz of Adams, TN; daughters, Amy (Doug) Baker of Carbondale and Cathy Koontz (fiancé, Brad Montgomery) of Strasburg; brother, John (Lillias) of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Maxine (Zane) Mayberry of Shumway, Margaret Allsop of Beecher City, Marilyn Koontz of Shumway and Arlene (Richard Doehring of Stewardson; sisters-in-law, Nelda Koontz of Lakewood, Arlene Koontz of Lakewood and Wanda Koontz of Stewardson; grandchildren, Cody and Mica Koontz and Ethan, Hannah and Sam Baker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Wendy, brothers, Jim, Dale, Jr. and Dwane Koontz and brother-in-law, Dale Allsop.

He will be missed by all who knew him.
