Walter Edward Kirchhofer, 89, of Shumway passed away at 12:55 a.m. Tuesday (July 28, 2015) at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Faith Lutheran Church, Shumway with Pastor Jason Rensner officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Faith Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brummerstedt Funeral Home, Stewardson. Memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church, Shumway.

He was born July 17, 1926 in Effingham County the son of Edward Rhinehart and Louise (Friese) Kirchhofer. He married Velma Jean Seeley August 10, 1947 in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Shumway.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Shumway. He was employed for 43 years at Norge (Fedders) in Effingham and loved to farm and raise cattle. He also enjoyed woodworking.

Surviving are his wife of over 67 years, Velma; son, Don Kirchhofer (Marita) of Condon, MT; daughter, Mary Miller (Jim) of Stewardson and Kay Frederking (Dave) of Altamont; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond Kirchhofer of Shumway; sisters, Grace Boldt of Effingham and Frieda Ruff of Decatur.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ed Kirchhofer, brother, Eugene Kirchhofer and sister, Marie Ciaflo.
