John Rankin King 74 of Peru, IL, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, was called to his eternal home on Dec. 18, 2014 in Lancashire Health Care Center in Lancaster, PA

A private graveside service will be held Saturday Dec. 27, 2014 in Mound Cemetery in Cowden, IL.Pastor Jan Lawson will officiate. John was born June 20, 1940 in Cowden, ILthe son of Marvin E. and Neva D. (Rankin) King.He moved with his parents to Shelbyville in 1954.John attended Shelbyville High School and graduated in the Class of 1958.He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.

John loved playing sports and being active.He enjoyed watching college basketball on television and attending menís and womenís fast pitch softball games.

He worked in the Secretary of Stateís Office in Springfield for a few years after college and then went into the banking business.He worked in banking in Taylorville, IL Millikin Bank in Decatur, IL, the Mt.Zion State Bank and retired from First National Bank in Peru, IL.After his banking career, he worked in Vlastnik`s Menís Store in Peru for several years.

John was a member of the Stephen Decatur Masonic Lodge # 0979 in Decatur, IL for 36 years.He was a member of First Christian Church in Cowden.

Surviving is his brother Larry King of Forsyth IL; nephews: Mike Foster of Cowden, and Dr. Jeff Walls of Matthews, NC; nieces Jana Foster of Matthews, NC and Jodi Foster of Lancaster, PA and several great nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Marvin and Neva King, sister JoAnn (King) Foster and sister-in-law Wanda (Schwenker) King.

John will be greatly missed by his beloved family and friends.He will be remembered for his wonderful little smile.
