Karl Julius, long-time resident of West of Beecher City, IL, was called to his eternal home in heaven on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at his home, surrounded by loving family members.

He was born in Fayette County, IL on June 24, 1927.Karl was the son of the late Roy  E. and Goldie Marie Lancaster Julius.

Karl was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict, joining the United States Navy as a seventeen year old youngster.He served in the navy on the aircraft carrier Tarawa and on the tanker Patuxent.

After his service to our country, Karl worked in the oil fields as a young man and was later employed by Hogge Lumber Co.He was a Unit 20 school board member for one term (1968-1972) with the last year serving as president.He also served as Loudon Township trustee for several years.He enjoyed farming and spent many a late night in the fields after working all day.As a senior citizen, Karl enjoyed playing pinochle with his friends at the Kluthe Center.Karl was a faithful member of Greenland Baptist Church for many years and served in various offices.He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.He was privileged and thrilled to travel on an Honor Flight in 2009 with his grandson Jon Julius.

Karl is survived by his wife of 67 years, Fay Julius; sister Bonnie Buzzard of Altamont, IL; sons: Ron (Vicki) Julius of Mt. Zion, IL, Dave (Cindy) Julius of Effingham, IL, Earl (Mary) Julius of Pittsburg, PA, and Rick (Lyn) Julius of Shumway, IL; daughters Lou Ann (Mike) Ellenburg of Easley, SC and Rita (Galen) Altman of Effingham; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Karl was preceded in death by a sister, Fern Anderson and brothers, Donald and Keith Julius.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday Mar. 17, 2015 in the Greenland Baptist Church near Beecher City. Pastor Robert Tucker and Pastor Bob Shaw will officiate.Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Monday Mar. 16, 2015 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City and one hour before the service on Monday in the Church.Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery at Wright’s Corner, IL.Memorials may be made in Karl’s memory to the Veterans Memorial in Beecher City.On line condolences may be sent to the Family at www.lockartgreenfuneralhome.com
