Virgil A. Hubner, 69, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 4:30 AM Thursday November 27, 2014 in the Shelbyville Manor in Shelbyville.

Virgil was born September 12, 1945 in Pana, Illinois the oldest of three sons to Roscoe A. and Helen Trueblood Hubner.

He married Vicki Tallman on April 23, 1966 in Shelbyville, Illinois.

Virgil graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1963.He attended Sparks Business College in Shelbyville before serving his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968.

Virgil worked at Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville before working at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Decatur, Illinois.He retired from Caterpillar after 30 years in 2000.

In retirement, Virgil worked for Ken Hoene Timber Service.

He was a member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #53, American Legion Post #71, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 4829, Ansar Shrine of Springfield and the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville.Virgil enjoyed a variety of activities throughout his life, including slow pitch softball, boating, golfing, traveling, gambling, watching NASCAR races, college basketball and spending time with his family.He especially enjoyed talking Kentucky college basketball with his daughter Brooke.Virgil was known by his family and friends as an excellent mechanic who could fix about anything with a motor.

He is survived by his wife Vicki; daughters: Heather (Jeff) Wooters of Shelbyville and Brooke (Brandon) Shufelt of Radcliff, Kentucky; grandchildren: Jillian and Andrew Shufelt and Brayton and Harrison Wooters; step-mother Nancy Hubner of Shelbyville; brothers: Roger (Paula) Hubner of Shelbyville and Steve (Kathy) Hubner of Shelbyville; mother-in-law Mary Lou Tallman of Shelbyville; brother-in-law David (Kelly) Tallman of Shelbyville and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Warren Tallman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday December 1, 2014 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Chaplain Monte Bowers and close friend, Ken Hoene will officiate.Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday November 30, 2014 in the funeral home with Masonic Rites at 6:00 PM.Burial will be in Hudson Cemetery near Shelbyville with full military honors performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard.Memorials may be given to the Shriner`s Children’s Hospital or Saving Orphaned Animals of Shelbyville.

The family wishes to thank the infusion unit of Cancer Care Center of Decatur and the staff at the Shelbyville Manor Bounce Back Program for their compassionate care while Virgil was a patient.
