Thomas Gene Hobby, 79, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 3:05 PM Friday
August 3, 2012 in his home.

Thomas was born January 12, 1933 in Muskegon, MI the son of Dale and Mary Margaret Colvard Hobby.

He married Kathryn DeKay on Nov. 19, 1955 in Pontiac, MI.

Thomas was a graduate of the Lawrence Institute of Technology in Detroit, Michigan and worked as a Civil Engineer construction layout specialist.He surveyed and laid out government buildings, power plants, and other large construction projects in Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, and Washington DC.He was an original constructor of the interstate highway. Thomas served his country in the United States Army as a combat engineer.

He was a talented carpenter and personally built his current home.A beekeeper at one time, Thomas, along with his wife, raised dairy goats and was locally famous for their daylilies which they grew at their home.

Surviving are his wife Kathryn; children: Elizabeth “Betsy” Wicker of Shelbyville, David Kevin Hobby of Pawnee, IL and Susan Kelly Nugent of Shelbyville; grandchildren: Jason Wicker, Kim Hobby, Rachel Andreatta and husband Alex, Daniel Nugent, Nicolas Nugent and Ashley Nugent; great grandchildren: Stiles Crowe, Alyssa Andreatta and Ava Andreatta; sister: Mary McHugh and husband Richard of Linden, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Allen Hobby and son-in-law Lyle Wicker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday August 8, 2012 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.The Family requests casual attire.Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday.Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville.Memorials can be made to Habitat for Humanity or the Pregnancy Resource Center in Shelbyville.On line condolences may be made to the Family at
