Mary Alice Gregg, age 60 of Charleston, IL, passed away at 3:10 pm, Saturday, March 30, 2013in Charleston, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the United Pentecostal Tabernacle, 2442 Harrison Avenue, Charleston, IL, with Rev. Roger Wood officiating.Interment will follow that afternoon at the Beecher City Cemetery in Beecher City, IL.Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the United Pentecostal Tabernacle.Lockart-Green Funeral Homes, Shelbyville, IL are in charge of arrangements.

Mary Alice was born on May 19, 1952 in Winchester, TN, the daughter of Kermit and Sadie (Shrake) Gregg.She attendedpublic schools in Cowden, IL, Hopkinsville, KY, and was a graduate of Beecher City High School, Beecher City, IL.Throughout her undergraduate years Mary Alice was an honor student, and was also selected as Beecher City High Schoolís Betty Crocker of Tomorrow entry in the statewide competition.She was a recipient of a scholarship to the Apostolic Bible Institute, St. Paul, MN, where she graduated with a Bachelorís in Theological Studies.Upon graduation from ABI she was employed fulltime in their administrative offices and later in the St. Paul public schools as well as the St. Paul Technical & Vocational Institute for the Deaf.After 26 years of living in St. Paul, she returned to Illinois where she cared for her father in his last years. Since a young child, Mary Alice dedicated herself to Christian service in various capacities including teaching Sunday School, bus ministry, planning fellowships/banquets, and reaching out to individuals in needShe possessed a compassion for others, especially her family whom in recent years she contacted regularly and enjoyed many long conversations.She desired that her family would walk in the truths of Godís word as they have known since their early childhoods as well.She was a faithful member of the United Pentecostal Tabernacle, Charleston, IL.

Surviving are her siblings, Flossila (Gregg) Cox and husband, Bobby Cox of Altamont, TN; Nathan Gregg and wife Jennie of Crossville, TN; and Helen, Aubrey and Danny Gregg of Charleston, IL; three step-brothers, Harold Ryan, Kelvin Bennett, Charles Bennett, their spouses, children and grandchildren.Also surviving are her three very special nieces and one special nephew:Pamela (Cox) Clemons and husband, Michael of Chattanooga, TN; Patricia (Cox) Layne and husband, Mark of Palmer, TN; Sheila (Cox) Gholston and husband, Verne, of Whitwell, TN, and Charles Wilson Cox and wife, Dianna, of Altamont, TN.She also treasured her great nephews and nieces:Zachary Clemons (fiancť Shiree Milligan), Tyler (Kayla) Clemons, Tristan Layne, Nicholas Layne, Travis Cox, Joey Hood, Alina Posey, Eldon Posey, and Michael Posey.

In her last years she was employed at the Charleston Public Library where she enjoyed the friendship of the staff members and found them to be very compassionate as she faced her ongoing battle with cancer. Much gratitude is extended to Pastor and Mrs. Roger Wood and church family, the Carle Physician Foundation Oncology Unit and their second-to-none dedicated oncology nurses; and to the Carle Hospice nurses and staff . Memorials may be made to the family in care of Helen Gregg and/or Flossila Cox.
