Norene Cox 95 of Beecher City, IL, passed away at 6:23 AM Friday Dec. 26, 2014 in St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL

Norene was born Dec. 28, 1918 in Boone County, Arkansas near Harrison, Arkansas the daughter of Floyd L. and Norma Lea Hensley Sparks.

She married James E. Cox on Dec. 28, 1945 and he passed away Oct. 4, 2004.

Norene was a member of the Greenland Baptist Church and a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club. In her early years she was very active in 4-H.

Before WWII, Norene was employed by the Frank Young Stave Co. and the general offices of the Missouri and Arkansas Railway Co. both in Harrison, Arkansas.In 1943, she served her country by enlisting in the Woman’s Army Air Corp, which was later called the Woman’s Air Corp. Her service was as a personnel consultant at Base Headquarters of Hill Field in Ogden, Utah.There she met, and later married, her husband, James.She was discharged on Nov. 14, 1945She and James came to the Beecher City Area and together workedat Randall Motors Co. for three years before startinga dairy farm together with there two sons Gary and James.They operated the farm for thirty years.She retired in 1981.

Norene enjoyed writing, especially letters.Many times she included poems or short stories about her life experiences and included them in her letters to friends and family.

Surviving are sons: James Cox of Beecher City and Gary Cox of Altamont, IL; sisters: Nell Riggins of Harrison, Arkansas, Dell Martin of Marshall, Arkansas and Sandra Hicks of Malvern, Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents, one brother and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday Dec. 30, 2014 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City.Pastor Bob Shaw will officiate.Visitation will be from 10:00 AM Tuesday until time of the service in the funeral home.Burial will be in Hubbartt Cemetery near Beecher City.Memorials may be made to the Greenland Baptist Church or Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, IL.On condolences may be sent to the family at
