Roger Lee Corley 78 of Pana, IL, formerly of Herrick, IL and Cowden, IL, passed away at 1:00 PM Tuesday Feb. 3, 2015 in Gowin Parc in Pana, IL.

Roger was born Oct. 10, 1936 near Herrick in Shelby County the son of Elmer and Lela Witt Corley.

He married Katherine Naomi Ruot on Oct. 10, 1954 in Herrick and she passed away on Mar. 23, 2012.

He graduated from Herrick High School in the Class of 1954 and was a member of the Christian Church of Cowden.

Roger retired in 1999 from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Decatur, IL after working there for 42 years.He was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer and he worked for Bowling Green Township mowing roadsides, cemetery property at Antioch Cemetery and the Herrick Baseball Field.He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting with his dog Cassie.He served on the school board of the Herrick Grade School for several years. For many years he assisted with the Mildred Carroll Fourth of July Celebration in Herrick.

Rogers’s life revolved around his family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He and Naomi cherished time they spent with their children and grandchildren and he rarely missed one of their ballgames or special events. Roger and Naomi planned, and he organized, camping outings, hay rides and wiener roasts for their children, grandchildren and all of their friends.Many former neighborhood young people still comment, and fondly remember his energy and enthusiasm with which he created special memories that they possess yet today.

Surviving are his children: Gary (Blanca) Corley of Decatur, Steven (Lois) Corley of Lakewood and Lisa Jones of Cowden; ten grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Naomi, parents, Sister Mary and infant brother Gary.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday Feb. 7, 2015 in Tower Hill Christian Church.Pastor Kevin Bonifacius, Pastor and Derrick Ritchie and Pastor Josh Hicks will officiate.Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Friday in the Church and one hour before the service in the Church on Saturday.Burial will be in Pleasant Union (Prairie Dog) Cemetery near Herrick.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
