Beverly Ann Chapman, 77, of Decatur, IL, formerly, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 11:42 PM Friday May 8, 2015 in her home.
Beverly was born August 3, 1937 in Shelbyville, IL the daughter of Lee and Viola Henderson Sprague.
She married Merle W. Chapman on August 9, 1959 in Shelbyville.They were married for 56 years.
Beverly graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1955.She received her Bachelors of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis, MO in 1959 and her Masters Degree from the University of Illinois in 1962.
She began her teaching career in Shelbyville where she taught English for six years.She moved to Decatur in 1967 where she taught for twenty-five more years, primarily at MacArthur High School.While at MacArthur she was awarded the Silver Apple Award.After taking an early retirement from the Decatur Public School System, she became an adjunct professor of English and Education at Millikin University in Decatur retiring in 2002.
Beverly was an active member of Central Christian Church in Decatur serving as a Deacon and Elder Emeritus.She was also member of P.E.O and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
She enjoyed bridge, literature, membership in several book clubs and playing golf.
Beverly maintained many close friendships and loved her family deeply.
She leaves her husband Merle; daughters: Ann (Tim) Miller of Reno, NV and Laura Chapman of Decatur; grandchildren: Brett Fehrenbach of Medina, OH, Steven Fehrenbach of Salt Lake City, UT, Katherine Fehrenbach of Reno, NV, Lacee Miller of Wooster, OH; uncle and aunt, John and Doris Henderson of Sacramento, CA and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a son John David and parents, Lee and Viola Sprague.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday May 13, 2015 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville with interment immediately following the service in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville.Rev. Michael Karunas will officiate.Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday May 12, 2015 in the funeral home.In addition, a memorial service will be held in Decatur on Friday May 15, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Central Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Central Christian Church in Decatur or Millikin University.
