Larry R. Chaney,71, of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of Findlay, IL, passed away at 4:01 PM Monday Aug. 13, 2012 in Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville, IL.

Larry was born Nov. 25, 1940 in Shelby County, IL the son of Lee and Mary Coughlin Chaney.

He married Jackie Thompson on Aug. 10, 1962 in the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.

Larry was a graduate of Findlay High School in the Class of 1958.

He was a lifelong farmer.Formerly, he also was employed at Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville and Macari`s Standard Service in Shelbyville where he delivered LP gas, diesel fuel and Standard Oil products to rural customers.

He served his country in the Illinois National Guard for several years.Larry was an outdoorsman and enjoyed camping.He was a huge sports fan, especially of basketball.He was passionate about local area high school basketball and hardly ever missed watching the Fighting Illini.

His greatest joy and love was for his Family who loved him dearly.He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, son-in-law and uncle.

Surviving are his wife Jackie; children: Beth Mode and husband Mike of Shelbyville, Brett Chaney and wife Tammy of Diamond Head, MS and Jeremy Chaney and wife Brandi of Strasburg, IL; grandchildren: Chase Standley, Casey Standley, Emma Grace Chaney, Carter Chaney and Kinley Chaney; mother-in-law Mary Thompson of Shelbyville; sisters: Sharon Nees and husband Butch of Shelbyville, Carol Wagner and husband Butch of Findlay, IL and Sue Longand husband Chuck of Taylorville, IL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley Donald, father-in-law Burl Thompson, granddaughter Jessi Mode and special aunt Bernadine Fitzpatrick.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday Aug. 18, 2012 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Gary Crowder will officiate assisted by associate pastor of First Christian Church of Shelbyville, Rev. Monte Bowers. Visitation will be from 5:00 -8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville.Memorials may be made in Larry’s honor to the men’s and women’s basketball programs of Shelbyville High School.Online condolences may be sent to www.lockartgreenfuneral
