Judith Elaine (Mose) Carter 64 of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 4:11 PM Sunday July 27, 2014 in St. Johnís Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Judy was born April 16, 1950 in Vandalia, IL the daughter of James W. and Gladys Spencer Mose.

She married Jackie Leroy Carter on Nov. 4, 1972 in Shelbyville and he passed away Nov. 19, 2003.

Judy graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1969 and from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL with a Bachelors of Arts degree in education.

She taught school in the Cowden-Herrick Unit School District and the Stewardson-Strasburg School District before coming to the Shelbyville Unit School District where she taught elementary grades for 28 years.

Judy was a member of the National Education Association and the Illinois Education Association.She loved cooking, reading, sewing and handicrafts.

Surviving are her daughter Jessie (Steve) Finney of Bargersville, IN; sister: Edith Watts of Decatur, IL; brother: Allen (Kathy) Mose of Webster, NY; mother-in-law Mildred Black of Shelbyville; sister-in-law Bari Mose of Shelbyville, brothers-in-law Gene (Judy) Carter of Jewett, IL and Don (Carmen) Carter of Taylorville, IL; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; her parents; brother Bill Mose; brothers-in-law: Walter Watts and Joe Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday July 31, 2014 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Rev. Kevin Ray will officiate.Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville.Memorials may be made in Judyís memory to the elementary reading and library programs of the Shelbyville Unit School District.
