James Calvin Carder, Jr., 83, of Stewardson died at 4:20 a.m. Saturday (January 17, 2015) at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Effingham.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday in the Stewardson Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Brummerstedt Funeral Home, Stewardson. Memorials may be made to the family % the funeral home.
James was born on January 18, 1931 in Decatur the son of James Calvin and Rosa Mae (Ward) Carder, Sr. He married Marianna W. Woodcock in 1979 and she preceded him in death in 2008.
James worked at General Electric in Decatur and was a painting contractor for 30 years. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy serving from 1950 to 1954. He was a member of the VFW, Stewardson American Legion and the Stewardson Fire Department. He loved gospel and bluegrass music and enjoyed playing the harmonica.
Surviving are daughters, Marchetta Wheeler of Berlin, MA and Winona Barnett of Vista, CA; sons, James F. Carder (Bonita Davis) of Watson and Jeff Carder (Edna) of Beardstown; step-children, Doug Hadden (Susan) of Gulf Breeze, FL and Carol Ann Clark of Collinsville; brother, Bernard Carder of Tennessee; sister, Louise E. Whitmore of Danville; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Viola, wife, Marianna, brother, Elmer Carder and sisters, Ruth Rhodes and Mildred Lamb.
