Catherine Marie Butcher, 87, of Stewardson passed away at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday (April 29, 2015) in the Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday May 5 in the Brummerstedt Funeral Home, Stewardson with Fr. Chris Brey officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Burial will be in the Stewardson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lincolnland Hospice, Alzheimer’s Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Catherine was born August 19, 1927 in Sigel the daughter of Leo and Grace (Houser) Hilmes. She married Xenophon Butcher March 2, 1946 in Sigel.

Catherine was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Society in Shumway, Royal Neighbors, Stewardson American Legion Auxiliary and Rebekah Lodge. She was formerly employed at Fedders in Effingham and retired from Royal Neighbors as a District Supervisor. She was an avid bowler sponsoring a team at the K Bowl and enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, traveling and her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband of Stewardson; children, Mary Buckner of Stewardson, X.B. “Pete” (Jencie) Butcher of Louisville, Linda Allen of Humboldt and Thomas Butcher of Farina: grandchildren, Sara (Justin) Beyers of Lake Sara, Xon Butcher of Falfurrias, TX, Kristina (John) Schnepper of Clay City, Annette (John) Gullidge of Louisville, Shane (Mindy) Allen of Marshall, John Thatcher Allen of Humboldt, Carrie (Ed) Boarman of Shelbyville, Josh (Milee) Butcher of Jacksonville, Zach (Mandy) Butcher of Farina, Mike (Michelle) Schnepper of Montrose and Emily (Scott) Riggs of Ohio; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Clem (Marilyn) Hilmes of Flora; sisters, Norma Jean (Lloyd) Dean of Arthur and Patricia (Chuck) Brazier of Casey.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Robert and Henry Hilmes.
