Charles Forest Blickem, a former resident of Cowden passed away at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday (February 1, 2011) in the White Oaks Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon. He was 92 years old.
“Charlie” was born in Plymouth County, Iowa on May 16, 1918, the six of twelve children born to Elihu E. and Grace Ellen Riley Blickem. He married Myrtle Mae Beck on July 29, 1940 in St. Charles, MO and she preceded him in death March 25, 1998.
He was an expert welder, owning and operating a blacksmith business in Cowden in the 1950’s. He was later employed in the Engineering Department of Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville. He retired as a pipeline welder for ADM in Decatur.
He was a member of the Baptist Church, a Thirty Second Degree Mason and a member of Greenland Lodge # 665 for sixty-six years. He was a Shriner out of the Ainad Temple in East St. Louis.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, one grandson, his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are his children, Victor Blickem and wife Julie of Cambridge, England, Judi Musser and husband Don of Pocahontas, AR, Susan Myers and husband Gary of Mt. Vernon.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Michael Musser and wife Lisa of San Antonio, TX, Shane Musser and wife Kelly of Austin, TX, Branden Stombaugh and wife Shawna of Rayville, MO, Carrie Cooper and husband James of Paragould, AR, Chelsea Ashby and husband Craig of New Zealand, Lindsey Blickem and wife Helen, Christian Blickem and wife Sarah, Emily Blickem and Will Davis all of England.
Also surviving are twelve great grandchildren.
Masonic Rites and services were private with Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden in charge of arrangements. Pastor Jay Huddleston officiated.
Burial was in Mound Cemetery, Cowden.
