Melba Robertson Bird, age 84, of Lutz, Florida passed away December 18, 2013 at 7:05 AM at her home.
She was a born on May 8, 1929 in Shelby County, Illinois to the parents of Homer and Pauline (Richards) Robertson. She and her son Jack moved to Lake Worth, Florida in 1960 after living many years in Mattoon, Illinois. She worked for the Woolco Corporation advancing to Executive Regional Personnel Manager for the Southeast U.S. States. After retirement she moved to Lutz, Florida and served as a personal assistant and caregiver for several years. She has lived in Lutz for the past thirty-three years and was a member of the Lutz Church of Christ.
Mrs. Bird is predeceased by her husband Frank W. “Bill” Bird, brother Kenneth Robertson and parents Homer Robertson and Pauline Robertson.
She is survived by her loving son, Major Jack D. Parr, US Army (Ret) and daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Parr of Tampa, Florida; four sisters, Ruby Rich of Pickerington, Ohio, Phyllis Petty of Herrick, Illinois, Cookie (Kenneth) Thompson of Scottsburg, Indiana and Shirley Redman of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; granddaughters Marsha Parr Scott of Danville, California and Shellie Parr of Mineral Wells, Texas, great-grandsons, Jared Schuler and Austin Shuler of Mineral Wells, Texas; great-granddaughter, Lauren Scott of Danville, California; great-great-granddaughter Aaliyah Shuler and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services celebrating Melba’s life will be held at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden, Illinois on December 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at the Mound Cemetery in Cowden. She was very loved by friends, family and especially by her great-grandchildren who looked forward to her visits. She will be greatly missed. May God bless her and welcome her with open arms.
