Sam Bence, 77, of Windsor, fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. He went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, June 8, 2014.
Sam was born on May 9, 1937 in Windsor, the son of Luther and Ivadean Bence.He married his wife Ann on August 19, 1956; she survives. They shared 57 years of love and marriage. Also surviving are his son Tim Bence and his wife Denise of Shelbyville and daughter Linda Baker and her husband Alan of Neoga. He was the proud and loving grandparent of Brianna Dow and her husband Jacob, Heather Baker, and Brody Bence. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Sam was a bookkeeper at Neal-Cooper Grain and later farmed. In his retirement years he worked at Effingham Equity. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching NASCAR, working in the yard, and vacationing with friends.
Sam was a member of the Windsor Christian Church for 65 years. Funeral services will be held at the church on Thursday, June 12 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Brookins officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at the church from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family suggests casual attire. Burial will be in the Windsor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Samís honor be given to the Caring and Sharing Ministry of Windsor Christian Church or Heartland Christian Village Auxiliary. Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. The family would like to thank the Sarah Bush Clinic at Neoga, Sarah Bush Cancer Center, Heartland Christian Village of Neoga, Dr. Lana Schmidt and Lincolnland Hospice for their medical care and compassion extended to Sam during recent years.
