Marie Holland Beem 97, of Troy, IL, formerly of Shelbyville, IL passed away at 12:25 PM Friday Sept. 17, 2010 at her residence in Troy.

Marie was born Feb. 18, 1913 in Shelbyville, IL the daughter of Harv and Nora West Holland.

She was married to William E. Beem on Jan. 4, 1930 in Taylorville, IL by Rev. Hastings, and he preceded her in death on May 19. 1990.

Marie lived in Shelbyville and surrounding communities’ for the majority of her lifetime with the exception of time spent in Alton, IL in the late 1950’s until the early 1970’s.

After retirement, Marie and Bill returned to Shelbyville where she remained until returning to the Alton, Godfrey and Troy areas in 2004.

Marie was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who worked very hard raising seven children during the wars and after.While living in a rural setting she toiled daily with household tasks, gardening and caring for her family.Formerly, she was employed at Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou Corporation in Shelbyville during the war.

She was affiliated with the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.

She is survived by six of her children.: William J. Beem and wife Sue of Godfrey, IL, Donald F. Beem and wife Sharilyn of Godfrey, IL, Sammy R. Beem and wife Nina of Troy, IL, Zula Fay Duez and husband Don of West Melbourne, FL, June Baughman and husband Bob of Springfield, IL and Joan Fisher and husband George of Friendship TN; twenty-four grandchildren; sixty-four great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, son Richard L. Beem, granddaughter Barbara Duez, brothers: Joe Holland, Earl Holland, Donald Holland, Harvey”Bud”Holland; sisters Juanita Galor, Rosemary Foor and Irene Law.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 21 September 2010 by Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville, Illinois followed by Interment in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville.Visitation will also be 21 September 2010 at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.

Marie loved her family, enjoyed life and always put others before herself.She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and beautiful person.
