Gary Lynn Beck 67 of Cowden, IL, passed away at 3:08 PM, Thursday, July 26, 2012 in his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 30, 2012 in the First Christian Church of Cowden.Pastor Tim Boyd and Pastor Darrell Hinkle will officiate.Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Sunday in the Church.Burial will be Mound Cemetery, Cowden.Memorials can be made to the Parsonage Fund of the First Christian Church of Cowden.

Gary was born March 10, 1945 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Raleigh and Dorothy L. Beeson Beck.

He married Barbara Lynn Compton on April 16, 1966 in Cowden.

Gary served his country in the United States Army overseas during the Viet Nam War.He was an active member of the First Christian Church of Cowden, where he formerly served as Deacon.Gary graduated from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky in 1971.He was an avid baseball fan and for many years coached Little League and Pony League youth baseball teams in Cowden.

Gary served neighbors and friends in the Shelbyville and southern Shelby County areas as a Country Companies Insurance Agent for 35 years.

Surviving are his loving wifeBarbara and beloved children: Jennifer Corley and husband Dale of Cowden, Greg Beck and wife Laura of Teutopolis, and Matt Beck and wife Chelle of Effingham; cherished grandsons: Will, Jonathan, Hayden, and Calvin; brothers: Augie Beck and wife Shawn of Cowden and Lacy Beck and wife Sandi of Cowden; brothers and sisters-in-law: Carol Koester and husband Howard of Brownstown, IL, Nancy Compton of Edwardsville, IL, Rod Compton and wife Joy of Decatur, IL, Phyllis Compton of Charleston, IL, Shirley Buchanan and husband Trent of Cowden, and Richard Compton and wife Regeana ofEffingham, IL; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Wayne and Mary Compton, brother-in-law Gene Compton, and infant nephew Kevin Compton.
