Stephen Andrew Baker 63 of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 11:40 PM Sunday Oct. 26, 2014 at Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville.

Steve was born Jan. 1, 1951in Jacksonville, IL the son of Walter and Margaret Nelson Baker.

He married Lynda Coventry on July 27, 1979 in Bethany, IL.

Steve graduated from Routt Catholic High School in Jacksonville in the Class of 1969. He received his Associate Degree from Robert Morris College at Carthage, IL in 1972. He received his Bachelors of Arts degree from Illinois State University at Normal, IL in 1976 and his Masters Degree from Eastern Illinois University at Charleston, IL in 1986.

He began teaching the sixth grade in the Findlay, IL School Districtin 1976.He retired in May of 2011 after teaching there for 35 years.Then, in June of 2011 he began a second career as a crop and hail adjuster for Country Financial Insurance and was still working at the time of his passing.

Steve was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Shelbyville.He was a passionate bicyclist, riding nearly every day rain or shine. He enjoyed photography and music.Steve and granddaughter Khloe together shared a great love of all the Beatles` music.

The greatest joy in his life was family, and he took great pride in the accomplishments of children.

Surviving are Lynda, his wife of 35 years; children Lyndsey (Kevin) Reedy of Mt. Zion, IL and son Brennon of Shelbyville; granddaughter Khloe; parents: Walter and Margaret Baker of Jacksonville;brothers and sisters: Daniel Baker of Franklin, IL, Terry (Karen) Baker of Jacksonville, IL, Gregg (Lisa) Baker of Normal, IL and Michael (Annie)Baker of Jacksonville, IL; mother-in-law and step father-in-lawBetty and John Lambdin of Sullivan, IL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Stephen (Connie) Coventry of Shelbyville, IL, Dennis(Linda) Coventry of Meriden, CT, Marilyn (Mark) Zimmer of Olympia, WA,Michael (Patricia) Coventry of Mattoon, IL, Roger (Barb) Coventry ofToledo, OH and Carla ( Neil) Dettling of Hammond, IL; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Mark Baker, father-in-law Carl Coventry and sister-in-law Sherry Cleveland.

He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday Oct. 30, 2014 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.Rev. Gene Godfrey will officiate.Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville.
