Leo Alexander “Sonny” Bachman Jr.75, of Findlay, IL, passed away at 12:29 PM Monday April 28, 2014 in Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Coles County, IL.

Sonny was born Feb. 26, 1939 in Decatur, IL the son of Leo and Sarah Wilson Bachman.

He married Barbara Harris on Dec. 31. 1961 in Decatur, IL

Sonny served his country honorably in the United States Army during the cold war and was deployed to France for two years. He then served in the National Guard.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Findlay. He formerly owned Bachman Insurance Agency in Decatur and also worked in the insurance business while he lived in Wasilla, AK.He then worked in sales for International Truck Co. dealerships in Illinois and Alaska.

Sonny was a commercial pilot and held his pilot’s license since childhood.He enjoyed restoring and flying vintage aircraft. He was former president, vice president and treasurer of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 274 in Decatur.He, formerly, held the position of chairman of the” Train a Pilot Association” in Decatur.Sonny was a member of the Clarence Bixler American Legion Post #409 of Findlay.

Surviving are his wife Barbara; children: Lynette Bachman Phillips of Avon, IN, Alexander Leo (Maria) Bachman of Chesterfield, VA and Ronda (Chris) Nesser of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren: C.J. Nesser Jr., Breanna Bachman and Ethan Bachman; sisters Patsy Cox of Decatur, IL ; Sally Crofford of Scottsdale, AZ and brother-in-law John Casey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Casey and three siblings in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday May 3, 2014 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Findlay.Pastor Tom Compton will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday in the funeral home.Burial will be in Findlay Cemetery, Findlay.Military rites will be performed by Clarence Bixler American Legion Post #409.Memorials may be made to the” Train a Pilot Program” in Decatur.On line condolences: www.lockartgreenfuneralhome.com
