Rev. Walter Wendal Attig, 91, of Mattoon, IL died Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 1:09 p.m. at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Services will be held at East Side Church of the Nazarene, Mattoon, IL where he was a member on Monday, July 28th at 12:30 p.m. with visitation 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday July 27th at the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville and from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Tim Gates will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Walter was born on April 11, 1923 in Ladysmith, WI to Rev. and Mrs. Fred G. and Velva (Bishop) Attig. He married Martha Ann Hayes on May 9, 1946 in Birmingham, AL; she survives.

Walter was a 1950 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University; he was an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, pastoring and evangelizing until his retirement in 1992, pastoring churches in Iowa and Illinois.

Walter was a loving father of four sons; David (Janice) Attig, Ron (Ann) Attig both of Colorado Springs, CO, Steve (Debbie) Attig of Olathe, KS, Sheridan (Lori) Attig of Ann Arbor, MI; daughter, Eneatha (Jim) Secrest of Mattoon, IL; one brother, Wayne (Wylanna) Attig of Murphysboro, IL; one sister, Charlotte Lundy of Littleton, CO; ten grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and dear friends, Yvonne and Bill Davis, Ray and Shirley Secrest and a host of others too numerous to name.

Walter was predeceased by his parents, brothers: Maurice, Lyle and Bob; sister Berea Tribbey.
